B x H x ME | mostra finale del 18° Corso in Pratiche Curatoriali Contemporanee
January 23 - 29, 2012
Curated by the 18th Course in Contemporary Curatorial Practice
Opening January 23, 18:00
A+A | Slovenian Exhibition Center presents B x H x Me, a group exhibition curated by participants of the 18th Course in Contemporary Curatorial Practice. Departing from ideas in Edward Abbott's novel, "Flatlandia", the exhibition is a reflection of concepts surrounding the exhibition space, understood as a dynamic place with which the subjects engage by amplifying the content and multiplying the size in relation to their own individuality.
The spatial coordinates become parameters to create a shift; a change of perspective localized between reality and utopia. The work of the eight young artists through the five rooms of the gallery creates an exhibition that investigates the realm that separates perception from abstraction. The interventions - developed by Jacopo Trabona, Luca Fabrizio, Kaori Miyayama, Matthew Attard, Nina Fiocco and Nicola Turrini, Alice Musi and Martino Genchi - allude to the possibility of another dimension, in which artistic gesture is able to surpass bi-dimensionality to become performance, sculpture, image and time.
"B x H x Me" wraps up the study and research completed within the 18th Course in Contemporary Curatorial Practice, which began in November 2011 in collaboration with the City of Venice, Department of Youth Politics and Peace, A + A Slovenian Exhibition Centre, Bevilacqua la Masa Foundation, the Venice Academy of Fine Arts and Artribune.
The analysis of the roles that national and international institutions play, combined with a careful monitoring of trends and artistic innovations within Venice, has allowed for course workshops to include the presentations of research projects by more than 40 young artists, selected based the interest that their work has generated on the contemporary scene. From this group, the young curators have selected works by eight artists, thanks to the relationship they have established through visits to local studios, public presentations, portfolio reviews and archive material.
The result, "B x H x Me," will be on display at A + A | Slovenian Exhibition Centre from Monday, January 23 to Saturday, January 29, 2012, open daily from 11 to 14 and from 15 to 18.
